A plain-English guide from a family-owned Denver mover
“How much will my move cost?” is the first question almost everyone asks. The honest answer is that it depends on a handful of things you can mostly predict. Here’s what really drives the price of a local move in the Denver area, how to keep it down, and how to get an accurate free quote.

The biggest factors in the cost of a move
- How much you’re moving. A studio apartment and a four-bedroom house are very different jobs. The number of rooms, and how full they are, matters more than anything else.
- Access at both homes. Stairs, elevators, long walks from the door to the truck, and tight parking all add time.
- Distance and drive time. Moving across the street is quicker than moving from Boulder to Castle Rock, and Denver traffic on I-25 and I-70 can change the drive time.
- Packing. Packing it yourself costs less. Having us pack (full or partial, with boxes and materials supplied) saves you days of work.
- Heavy and specialty items. Pianos, antiques and other very heavy pieces need extra care and equipment.
- Timing. Summer, weekends and the end of the month are the busiest times to move.
How to lower your moving cost
- Declutter first. Sell, donate or recycle what you don’t want to move. Fewer items means a faster move.
- Pack some of it yourself. Partial packing lets you do the easy rooms and leave the kitchen and fragile items to us.
- Be flexible on the date. A mid-week or mid-month move is often easier to schedule.
- Get the buildings ready. Reserve elevators and loading areas, and make sure the truck has a place to park close to the door.
- Be ready when the crew arrives. Boxes closed and labeled, and small items off the floor, keeps things moving.
Questions to ask any mover before you book
- How is the price calculated, and what exactly is included?
- Are packing materials included, and is there a charge for stairs or heavy items?
- Are you licensed and insured?
- What happens if something is damaged?
- Can I read recent reviews from real customers?
We’re happy to answer every one of these. Small World Movers is family-owned, fully licensed and insured, and rated 4.8 stars on Google. If something is ever damaged, we work with you right away to make it right.
