Moving in Golden: what to know

Golden is the Jefferson County seat, home to about 20,000 people, and sits roughly 12 miles west of downtown Denver where Clear Creek comes out of the mountains. It was the capital of Colorado Territory from 1862 to 1867, and today it’s known for the Colorado School of Mines, the Coors brewery and the historic downtown along Washington Avenue. North and South Table Mountain rise to the east, and Lookout Mountain to the west.

Getting here is simple: US-6 runs east to Denver, Highway 58 links to I-70, Highway 93 heads north to Boulder, and C-470 ends at US-6 in Golden. The harder part is usually the house itself. Homes on Lookout Mountain and in the surrounding foothills can have steep, winding roads and tight driveways, and those roads can be icy in winter.

Closer to downtown, Victorian and early-1900s houses in the historic districts often have narrow stairs and little parking out front, so tell us how close the truck can get. If you’re a Mines student moving around the start of the fall semester in late August or the end of the spring semester in May, book as early as you can.
