Wheat Ridge sits right next to Denver’s west side, with mature trees, mid-century ranch homes and quick access to I-70. We’re Small World Movers, a family-owned Denver-area moving company in business since 1999, and we take good care of older homes and everything in them.

Moving in Wheat Ridge: what to know
Wheat Ridge is a Jefferson County city of about 32,000 people, roughly 7 miles west of downtown Denver. It grew up as farm country before incorporating in 1969, and it was once called the Carnation City for the carnations grown here; the yearly Carnation Festival still celebrates that history. Clear Creek and the Wheat Ridge Greenbelt cross the city, I-70 runs through it, and Kipling Street, Wadsworth Boulevard and Sheridan Boulevard are the main north-south routes.
Much of the housing is postwar: ranch homes from the 1950s through the ’70s, many of them brick, often with basements, big lots and mature trees. Paramount Heights, for instance, was built mostly between 1954 and the early 1970s. Newer townhomes and apartments have gone up near the Wheat Ridge·Ward station at the end of RTD’s G Line, and at Clear Creek Crossing, where the new Intermountain Health Lutheran Hospital opened in 2024.
Older homes bring their own moving puzzles: narrow basement stairs, tight turns, low branches over the driveway and not much curb space for a truck. Measure large pieces before moving day, trim low branches if you can, and tell us about stairs and the walk to the truck when you ask for a quote. Townhome communities often have HOA rules for moving trucks, so check yours too.

Wheat Ridge moving FAQ
Can you move furniture in and out of a basement in an older ranch home?

Is moving from Denver to Wheat Ridge a local move?
Yes. Wheat Ridge borders Denver, with downtown only about 7 miles away, so it sits well inside our service area.
We’re moving into a townhome near the Ward station. What should we check?
